Terms of use
The basis on which this site is published, the limits of what the information can be relied on for, and the law that applies. Last updated 14 July 2026.
Acceptance
By using clearhorizones.com you agree to these terms. If you do not accept them, please do not use the site. These terms apply to every page, including the trip planner.
What this site is
Clear Horizons is an independent publication providing general information about travelling within Australia by road. It is not a travel agency, a tour operator, a booking service or an authority of any kind. We do not sell or book travel, we do not take payments, and we have no accounts, logins or customer relationships. Nothing on this site is an offer, a quotation or a contract.
Accuracy and limitation of reliance
We take reasonable care to make the information on this site accurate at the time it is published or reviewed. Even so, conditions in Australia change constantly and often without notice. Roads close for flood, fire, snow, landslip and roadworks. National parks close whole sections seasonally and at short notice. Ferry timetables, booking systems, permit requirements and fees change. Distances and driving times are estimates that depend on your vehicle, your load, the traffic and the weather.
You must verify anything that matters with the responsible authority before you travel. That means the relevant state or territory road authority for road conditions and closures, the relevant park service for park access, camping, permits and fees, the relevant fire service for fire danger declarations, and the operator for any ferry or transport arrangement. Where this site and an authority disagree, the authority is correct.
Information about seasons, road surfaces, remoteness and mobile coverage is general guidance for planning. It is not a safety assessment of any particular journey, in any particular vehicle, by any particular person. Deciding whether a route is within your and your vehicle's capability is your responsibility.
No warranty
The site and its content are provided on an "as is" basis. To the maximum extent permitted by law, we exclude all representations and warranties, express or implied, including as to accuracy, completeness, currency, fitness for a particular purpose and uninterrupted availability. Nothing in these terms excludes, restricts or modifies any guarantee, right or remedy you have under the Australian Consumer Law that cannot lawfully be excluded.
Limitation of liability
To the maximum extent permitted by law, Clear Horizons and its writers are not liable for any loss, damage, cost or expense — direct, indirect, incidental or consequential — arising from your use of this site or from reliance on anything published on it, including any decision to take or not take a particular route, to travel at a particular time, or to camp in a particular place.
Your use of the site
You may read, print and share the pages on this site for your own personal and non-commercial use, including printing a plan from the trip planner. You may not republish, sell, systematically copy or scrape the content, or present it as your own. All text, tables, illustrations and code on this site are our copyright unless stated otherwise.
You must not attempt to interfere with the operation or security of the site, or use it in a way that breaches any Australian law.
The trip planner
The trip planner is an informational tool. It runs entirely in your browser, makes no bookings, takes no payments and sends nothing to us. Its distances, durations and seasonal windows are estimates on the same basis as the rest of the site. Your shortlist is stored in your own browser, and we cannot recover it if you clear it or if your browser blocks storage.
External links
We link to state park services, road authorities and other external sites. Those sites are not under our control, and we are not responsible for their content, availability or practices. A link is not an endorsement.
Emergencies
This site is not an emergency service and cannot help in an emergency. In an emergency anywhere in Australia, call 000.
Changes
We may update these terms from time to time. The date at the top of this page shows when they were last changed, and the version published here is the one that applies.
Governing law
These terms are governed by the laws of Tasmania and the Commonwealth of Australia. Any dispute is subject to the non-exclusive jurisdiction of the courts of Tasmania.
